Michel Prazeres slapped with lengthy ban by USADA shortly after UFC exodus
Michel Prazeres will be facing a four year ban from MMA
Former UFC Welterweight division fighter, Michel Prazeres has accepted the 4-year ban that has been placed on him for failing an out-of-competition drug test. UFC’s anti-doping partner, the U.S Anti-doping agency announced Prazeres’ sanction on Thursday, which comes from four different urinary samples that all contained the banned substances clomiphene, oxandrolone, and the externally administered testosterone.
He was previously slapped with charges of external administration of boldenone, which earned him a two-year ban in 2020. “Anabolic agents have powerful performance-enhancing capabilities and can give an athlete an unfair advantage over fellow competitors,” USADA testers stated in a press release.
What will be the future of Michel Prazeres now that he is banned from the MMA
The test was collected on August 27, September 15, October 16, and November 4. Michel will be able to participate again in the UFC in August of 2025, four years after he gets banned. Prazeres voluntarily left UFC in early December, and shortly after, he asked the UFC for termination of his contract, according to MMA Fighting.
“I asked to be released,” Prazeres said. “I’ll focus on the business I have in Belem, and who knows, maybe I’ll come back to fighting in the future. I’ll focus on jiu-jitsu and relax.”
Michel Prazeres is one of the many names in UFC who has failed the drug test in the prime of their careers. Some fighters who previously failed the drug tests are Thiago Silva, Lavar Johnson, and Matt Riddle, amongst many others.
In the past, Prazeres has fought great names in his eight-year-long career with UFC. His most notable opponents have been Ismail Naurdiev, Shavkat Rakhmonov, and many others. Although his recent matches have ended in a loss, his previous track record shows that he is capable of greatness. He is thinking of dedicating his time to his business right now and will be training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
