Neil Magny secured the win against Max Griffin at UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs Daukaus. It was an amazing back and forth battle, but Magny used his experience to get the decision victory. Magny has been fighting in the organization for a long time, and he’s been asking for top-level contenders ever since his return.
Magny wanted to fight Khamzat Chimaev, and these two went back and forth on Twitter for a long time. Khamzat was interested in fighting Magny, but he instead got a fight against number two ranked welterweight, Gilbert Burns. He is extremely confident in his abilities, and he is not even worried about Burns. Khamzat claimed he’s in Gilbert’s head, and after taking him out, he would become the two-division champ, by beating both Kamaru Usman and Israel Adesanya.

Magny wants to become a champion, and he’s done waiting for the right opponents to get the shot. After his loss against Michael Chiesa, he took some time out and changed his whole approach. Talking to reporters after beating Max, he said, “At first it kind of was and I was like, ‘I want a ranked opponent. I want this, I want that.“
“But then life itself is my biggest motivator. I looked at myself in the mirror and said, ‘Who the f*ck do you think I am?’ I have a son to provide for and I have a family to provide for. I can’t go out there and be choosy. I have to go out there and get it done. I have a family. I can’t just sit there and wait.”
“I definitely want that top-five guy right away, but at the end of the day I can’t wait for them. I’ve seen crazier things happen. Just a couple of weeks ago Islam fought a guy who wasn’t ranked in Bobby Green and he moved up one ranking spot. So if I have to fight whoever the UFC throws at me and move up one by one and find myself in the top five, so be it. I’ll do it. I just have to keep showing up over and over again,” Magny concluded.
