UFC superstar Conor McGregor is eagerly looking to get back into the fight game after his two-year layoff from the competition. After being a part of The Ultimate Fighter 31, the Irish superstar was planning a return to the UFC against rival TUF coach Michael Chandler at UFC 296. The speculated date for this fight was 16th December 2023. But there seems to be a new twist in McGregor’s comeback story.
During UFC 292, McGregor shared a series of voice notes in which the Irish star expressed his opinions about the fights at the event. But after some regular tweets, McGregor spoke about his concerns over the return date of his UFC fight. He said, “I wanted the announcement [for] December 16. I’ve given everything. It’s not going to happen. It doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. I thought we confirmed it, but turns out, maybe it’s not so much”.
McGregor then pleaded to Endeavor Ceo Ari Emanuel and Nevada Atletic commission executive Director Bob Benett for help. He then eventually ended his voice note saying”They’re not going to let me fight in December. I feel like I’m being kept from my livelihood, and I’ve been feeling this for years.” McGregor also shared that in any case if the event takes place in 2024 he’ll be ready for the fight.
Reports suggest that McGregor did not enter the United States Anti-Doping Agency(USADA) testing pool in time to meet the six months requirement criteria. Fans were expecting Conor McGregor to gain an exemption for his return but after this series of tweets, the fight would most probably take place in 2024.
