Sean Strickland is a textbook example of tense ‘machismo’ or overt mannishness within the UFC. Case in point – his current cage-side brawl with UFC 297 challenger Dricus Du Plessis. Recently, commentator Joe Rogan shunned the incident and psychopathic behaviorism. The former “King of the Cage” Middleweight champion is famous for his overt and unhinged expositions. His tendency to not shy away from voicing unfiltered concern or criticism has earned him much stand as a “true American” champion.
At 28-5 MMA, 15-5 UFC, Strickland is the current middleweight champion. The 185lber “Tarzan” bagged his gold against Israel Adesanya at UFC 293. Gannet Company’s MMA Junkie is one of the premier combative sports news websites since 2006. Now, MMA Junkie has anointed him the 2023 Male Fighter of the Year. While celebrating the news, this is what Strickland had to joke on the matter:
Talent must be low this year...Sean Strickland at his gym
Strickland competed and won all three of his bouts in 2023, thus feigning the jibe of letting him win. These include the unanimous decision wins against Adesanya/Nassourdine Imavov and a TKO of Abus Magomedov. His victory over Adesanya was considerably one of the biggest upsets in MMA history. The unlikely contender had lost to Alex Pereira in July at UFC 276 and incurred a split decision skid to Jared Cannonier, just about a year ago.
The Xtreme Couture striker next faces Du Plessis. The South African phenom was to face Strickland at UFC 293 but had to forego it due to a foot injury. As of late his UFC 296 cage-side tussle with Strickland has seen the label of being a black-eyed public stunt for the promotion.
Sean Strickland takes dig at Colby Covington’s phony WWE-esque shade
Sean Strickland and Colby Covington are two of the most heated entities in the UFC. Both of them are famed for their around-the-bend and unhinged insults. Leading up to the UFC 296 Media Day pre-fight presser, the two had locked on in quite a feud. In the aftermath, “Chaos” had also claimed ‘trainwreck’ Strickland as an ‘easy fight’.
Conversely though, “Tarzan” himself did not back down either. Going into Covington’s welterweight title contention, Strickland had gibed on the rival as well. Significantly, he had also critiqued his aura to be engineered and WWE-esque. After insulting Leon Edwards’ deceased father, Covington had claimed on playing a role for the sake of a build-up. Correspondingly, here’s what Strickland had to say:
Covington, who lost to Edwards shortly afterwards, has no slated matchup pairings as of yet. Meanwhile, Strickland squares off with Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297 for a maiden title defense.
