Sean O'Malley

Sean O’Malley and Pedro Munhoz’s scrap didn’t go as excited as expected for the fans. O’Malley and Munhoz went on to have their bout concluded as a no-contest due to O’Malley’s eye poke at UFC 276. This was O’Malley’s second accidental foul after a groin kick. Munhoz was decisively winning the first round with smart use of leg kicks and punctually getting out of offence range during O’Malley’s attacks.

O’Malley had a huge opportunity to break into the top 10 but that has ceased now. Both the fighters gave each other respect even after this sorta contentious ending to the chapter. Running the fight back would make sense but let’s see how UFC’s matchmaking reacts to this situation this coming Tuesday. Munhoz seemed to have figured out O’Malley so it’s an unfortunate event for him as well to have had his rhythm broken.

A number of notable faces of the MMA industry share the same disappointment like all of us. See these reactions below from Luke Thomas, Adrian Yanez and more to make an assessment of the situation.

What do you make of this unfortunate ending for both the fighters? Do you think this fight should be run back again or just change opponents for the next fight as of now? Where do you put O’Malley amongst the biggest prospects in the future and what do you think is next for Munhoz with the recent phase of his career being a set of losses and now a no-contest? UFC 276 is airing live with the main event being between the champion of middleweight, Israel Adesanya and his challenger for the fifth title defence, Jared Cannonier.
