Aleksandar Rakic hasn't given up on title dreams

Aleksandar Rakic hasn’t given up on his dream of becoming the UFC light heavyweight champion as of yet. The fighter is motivated more than ever to make a return to the octagon.

At UFC Vegas 54, Aleksandar Rakic got the opportunity to take on former champion Jan Blachowicz on his path to the light heavyweight belt. The main event was all set for Rakic and Blachowicz to prove their worth for a title shot but things didn’t go according to plan for the “Rocket”.

Despite three rounds of back-and-forth between the two light heavyweight giants, Rakic’s knee compromised halfway through the third round of the fight which led to the stoppage of the fight. Jan who was not entirely dominant against Rakic in the fight was awarded the victory via TKO [injury] in the third round which put an end to Rakic’s dream of a title shot in the near future.

A video recently surfaced of the fighter going through emotions as he walked backstage with his coaches after the injury stoppage against Blachowicz. “I let you down” were the words that Aleksandar kept repeating to his coaches. Recently Rakic put out a tweet replying to the footage that gives a sense of confidence to the fans of the fighter.

“The things many people do not see often is what happens immediately after leaving the cage… The return will taste that much sweeter,” wrote Rakic in his latest tweet. The light heavyweight is confident that he can land the title shot in the upcoming years and will fulfill his ultimate goal of wrapping the UFC belt around his waist.

Prior to UFC Vegas 54, Aleksandar was in the top 5 rankings with a record of 6-1 in the UFC. Rakic’s only loss came against Volkan Oezdemir in 2019 via decision. Aleksandar has beaten some of the biggest names in the division. His wins against Anthony Smith, Thiago Santos, and Jimi Manuwa still have a lot of weightage in his resume. Aleksandar Rakic is currently ranked #3 in the light heavyweight division and has a handful of potential opponents he could fight to secure a title shot.
