Alex Pereira had a second MMA fight against Israel Adesanya at UFC 287. Both fighters seemed calm and composed at the press conference. However, in the second round of the fight, Pereira got knocked out cold from the counterstrikes of Israel Adesanya. This is also the first time Poatan has lost to Adesanya in his career.
However, Alex Pereira remained in high spirits despite the loss and took to Twitter to make a statement. He wrote, “I’m just here to let u know that I’m fine ! I want to thank my family, my team and all the people who are supporting me during my journey. Now I just have to rest and continue with the plans that are already on motion. Thanks god.”
The fight was a back-and-forth affair, with both fighters landing good strikes. Adesanya landed some good head strikes, but Pereira targeted the lower body of Adesanya to restrict his movement. Adesanya switched stances more often with the amount of leg kicks that Pereira landed. However, a heavy counterstrike from Adesanya knocked him out cold.
Pereira remains to be in good spirits despite the loss. He had a backstage interaction with The Last Stylebender and told him that it was his night, and both fighters hugged it out in a wholesome moment. It is unknown where Pereria will fight next, as he has indicated a desire to move up to the Light Heavyweight division.

Israel Adesanya praises Alex Pereira after UFC 287
Poatan and The Last Stylebender fought for the fourth time across two combat sports. So far, Pereira had won all the fights but history did not repeat itself at UFC 287. Adesanya knocked out Pereira in the second round to reclaim the UFC Middleweight title. In the post-fight press conference, Adesanya shut down a third MMA fight between them both but praised his opponent.
He said, “Go cause problems at 205 and good luck to everyone else because he’s a motherf***er to deal with, I’ll tell you that.” With Adesanya winning most of the first bout and clearly winning the second, he does not see a reason to fight Pereira a third time. However, he feels that the Light Heavyweight division is in trouble if Pereira moves up a weight class.
The future of the Middleweight division remains unknown. Khamzat Chimaev is coming to fight in the division and will most likely face a top-ranked opponent. At the moment, it is not known who will fight Adesanya next, as he has cleaned up the division with a win over Pereira.
