“What is Adesanya is going to do? Kick me”- Alex Pereira brutally trolls Israel Adesanya for his ‘leg kick heavy’ approach in his recent fights
Israel Adesanya & Alex Pereira
Rising contender, Sean Strickland is going to take on the hottest prospect, Alex Pereira in a middleweight contest at UFC 276. Strickland has been on a roll since he moved gyms to Xtreme Couture. He’s on a 6 fight win streak, and his last one came against Jack Hermansson. Pereira is a legend of the kickboxing circuit, and his recent venture into MMA has been nothing but amazing.
He is 5-1 in his career so far, and he showed incredible resilience in his last fight against Bruno Silva. Pereira is famous for his two wins over the middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya back in their kickboxing days. Pereira announced his UFC arrival with a brutal knockout, and the champ was fairly impressed by his performance. Alex claimed his ultimate goal is to become the champion, and he’s not so focused on facing Adesanya.
Strickland has been fairly vocal about his game plan for this fight, and he stated that he would immediately resort to his wrestling if he sense some danger on the feet. Alex, on the other hand, talked about his strategy for the first time in an interview with MMA Fighting, he said, “Honestly, I’m not thinking about a knockout. If it’s a fight [that ends] by decision, winning clearly, I’d prefer it.” (H/T MMA Fighting)
“I think he’s evolving”- Alex Pereira provides his honest assessment of Sean Strickland
Pereira says he sees a lot of holes in Strickland’s game, and with his kickboxing experience he can exploit it for sure, “I see many openings in his game,” said Pereira. “There are so many things I can do there. Even that fight he lost to the Brazilian with a spinning kick, he’s getting a lot of experience since. Maybe it wasn’t just that he moved up in weight, I think he’s evolving. Six fights [since then] is a lot, you know?” (H/T MMA Fighting)
Addressing the possible fight against Adesanya, he said, “I don’t know what will happen. People have been asking for the Adesanya fight and the title fight ever since I signed. I came in saying I wanted to fight for the belt against whoever held it, and he’s there. I don’t know how it’s going to be, but I’ll be ready for one, two, three, how many more fights the organization wants me to take. But we can see it’s being a quick process. I’m ready.” (H/T MMA Fighting)
“What is Adesanya is going to do? Kick me? I’ll defend it. The defense I do, it hurts people as well. He does that well, he hurts people. I won’t mention names here, but you can see people he’s fought. (And people) will never talk about this kick (to the thigh).” (H/T MMA Fighting)
