Recently, UFC CEO Dana White announced the main event of UFC 300, the most anticipated fight. He disclosed Alex Pereira would put his light heavyweight title on the line against the former champion Jamahal Hill. In a recent video, ‘Poatan’ stated he wanted to make a quick turnaround and fight in UFC 301 as well.
In his latest live stream on YouTube, Alex Pereira stated he wanted to defend his belt at a fast pace. As such, he eyed to make quick work of Jamahal Hill in UFC 300 and make a turnaround to UFC 301. Here is what he said through a translator:
I want to defend the belt in a very fast pace, in a row, two times. Now, this would be the opportunity, with these cards being so close to each other, for me to be able to defend at UFC 300 and maybe in Rio (UFC 301). That is a very big possibility because if I don’t get hurt, I did this before in kickboxing. So if everything goes fine I’ll try to defend the belt again very fastAlex Pereira (via YT-Alex Poatan Pereira)
While it would excite the Brazilian fans, the probability of Alex Pereira making a quick return remains improbable. UFC 300 happens on April 13 and UFC 301 is scheduled for May 4. ‘Poatan’ would only get 21 days to recover from his fight against Jamahal Hill and fight in Rio, Brazil. Nonetheless, Pereira liked the possibility and was confident in making history.
Alex Pereira’s career in the UFC has been quite the ride. He won the middleweight title in just his fourth fight in the promotion. Then, he moved up to claim the light-heavyweight title in his seventh UFC fight. No one has accomplished this feat in the time frame ‘Poatan’ did. As such, Pereira potentially defending his title back to back in UFC 300 and UFC 301 would add another feather to his illustrious MMA career.
Jamahal Hill vs. Alex Pereira was originally scheduled to headline UFC 301
Alex Pereira is the biggest UFC star in Brazil right now. As such, he was to take on Jamahal Hill in the UFC’s return to Brazil. So, the UFC put forth their matchup to headline UFC 301. However, since the fight promotion struggled to book a main event for UFC 300, the UFC preponed their matchup to the historic fight card.
In a recent interview, Hill disclosed the offer to fight Alex Pereira at UFC 301. It was the UFC’s original plan. However, the UFC pushed them to UFC 300 since they couldn’t find any other exciting main event for the continental PPV event. Further, Hill acknowledged the star power of ‘Poatan’ and the narrative behind their fight and claimed they were worthy of headlining UFC 300. Check out what Jamahal Hill said in the below tweet.
Further, Alex Pereira also confirmed the UFC offered him to headline UFC 301 first in his YouTube livestream. In a turn of events, ‘Poatan’ and Jamahal Hill would headline the once-in-a-lifetime card of UFC 300.
