Multiple contenders in the 205 division eyed the vacant title at light-heavyweight. But the ones who earned the ultimate opportunity are Jiri Prochazka and former middleweight champ Alex Pereira. In a recent video from the UFC, CEO Dana White announced the headline events for UFC 295. The co-main of this event will hold the light-heavyweight title fight. Recently, Pereira spoke about this matchup and the intentions going into this fight in an interview on YouTube.
The Brazilian said, “Okay, it’s gonna be a fight, a real spectacle because it’s different styles but it’s also a style everyone loves and I’m super stoked to have booked this fight. I’m sure it’s gonna be a blast. I don’t think anyone will regret watching this fight.” Pereira remains excited and will attempt to win the second division title in the UFC.
In the interview, Pereira emphasized the fact that many MMA fans show their support towards him. Previously competing as a kickboxer, Pereira lacked essential wrestling and grappling skills. This lack of armory made the fans have preconceived notions about the fighter’s caliber. However, the Brazilian has proved everyone wrong. Ever since entering the UFC, he has defeated Israel Adesanya to become the middleweight champion. And, later, after just a single fight at 205, Pereira will compete for the title.
White, on Twitter, also announced the dates for the events. UFC 295 will occur on November 11th at Madison Square Garden, New York. This fight will be Pereira’s big day to achieve the glory everyone is striving for. Prochazka will pose a huge challenge as the fighter had already gotten the better of Pereira’s teammate and former champ, Glover Texeira.
Anthony Smith responds to Alex Pereira’s callout
UFC light-heavyweight Anthony Smith contender has responded to Alex Pereira’s invitation for a fight. This bad blood began with Smith criticizing Pereira’s debut at light-heavyweight. Pereira did not take these words well as the Brazilian struck back by calling Smith “washed up.” Further, Pereira posted an image on his Twitter suggesting a grappling match between the two. The ‘Lionheart’ has finally responded to Pereira’s tweet.
Smith made an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. After Hewani asked Smith about the playful invitation, he said that he would outwrestle Pereira without any effort. Smith seemed overly eager to engage in this rivalry.
However, Smith will have to wait for his revenge as Pereira will take on Jiri Prochazka for the prize at 205. Smith is currently ranked 8th in the light heavyweight division. Henceforth, the ‘Lionheart’ will have to make significant progress in his division to make a fight with Pereira.
