The newly crowned champion, Sean Strickland, shook the whole combat world with his performance. Before UFC 293, no experts gave Sean Strickland a chance to win the middleweight championship. His 5-round dominance against then-champion Israel Adesanya was one of the best performances in the UFC. Many UFC fighters took to the internet to congratulate Strickland on his title victory. One of those fighters was former middleweight champion Alex “Poatan” Pereira.

Alex went on Twitter to talk about experts who predicted a swift victory for Adesanya. Periera tweeted, “Talking about the fight yesterday- everybody gave their opinion before the fight, but I didn’t see any “MMA expert” who gave Sean the credit he deserved! Now everybody is having excuses, they weren’t right this time. It’s the minimum they can do. Sad is, these guys never change.

Previously, “Poatan” had a huge contribution in terrorizing Israel Adesanya at middleweight. The former Brazilian kickboxer, in his fourth fight in the UFC, defeated Adesanya to become a champion. Later, Adesanya successfully got his revenge after knocking out Pereira cold in their rematch. After finding success in middleweight, Pereira is currently running for the light-heavyweight title.

Pereira’s third fight in the UFC came against now-champion Sean Strickland. The Brazilian knocked out Strickland in their matchup. But later, the rivals became friends as the duo worked together ahead of UFC 293. Pereira also predicted that only Strickland had the ability to defeat Adesanya some time back. Pereira’s analysis became a reality compared to other analysts and experts who predicted Adesanya to retain the title at UFC 293.

After UFC 293, a lot has changed in the dynamics of the middleweight division. Former middleweight champion Alex “Poatan” Pereira went on Twitter to talk about Israel Adesanya’s loss.

Pereira and Adesanya have been long-standing rivals ever since their Glory kickboxing days. The two UFC fights between the two were some of the most intense fights in the UFC. Ultimately, Pereira lost his title and moved to the light heavyweight division due to difficult weight cuts. However, despite success in the light heavyweight division, Pereira never ruled out a move back to 185 pounds. He hoped to compete for the middleweight title against Adesanya once again.

Pereira canceled any further plans for a middleweight after Strickland’s title win. Pereira and Adesanya share a special rivalry that has not come to a proper conclusion. Both fighters, in their further careers, could compete against each other in the octagon. For now, Pereira hopes for Strickland to have a great title reign.
