UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski has indicated his interest in rematching the lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. After his first fight with Makhachev, which resulted in a loss, many believed Volkanovski got the better of the Dagestani fighter. This conclusion led to rematch ideas for both fighters. But recently, the featherweight champion came out in public to reveal his plans for the future.

Volkanovski said, “Yeah well, obviously you got the Ilia fight, that’s always gonna be there. You got the rematch that I want. I want to be active. Obviously, Islam and Charles are going to be going at it soon. So I don’t want to wait around.” Further, in that interview, Volkanovski also revealed that his next fight would probably take place in early 2024. Due to some busy schedules in the UFC, it will be difficult for the featherweight champ to appear in any events this year. But 2024 seems a lot more likely.

Ilia Topuria has appeared as a heavy favorite to fight Volkanovski next. The Georgian National has an undefeated record in the UFC. Currently, Topuria is ranked 5th in the division. Despite this stat, Topuria remained the most logical opponent for Volkanovski. The featherweight champion has dominated his division for a long time now. The top 4 in the roster have already been pummeled in his choice of opponents. Famous names among these opponents were Max Holloway, Brian Ortega, and Yair Rodriguez.
