The recent UFC 298 countdown saw some drama in the form of Henry Cejudo firing his coach.  This has garnered the attention of many fighters, including the featherweight champion himself. Alexander Volkanovski slammed Cejudo’s decision to fire longtime coach Eric Albarracin on camera in the UFC 298 Countdown show.

Volkanovski was skeptical about the video’s authenticity initially. He wondered if it was some promotional stunt. However, Volkanovski said he lost respect for Cejudo if it was legitimate. This is what Volk said:

Henry, if this is legit, you are a piece of sh*t. Let me tell you that right now. That's crazy to me. That's why I don't believe it. I don't think he's that much of a sh*tbag… I will ask him. I don’t get it. I really don’t get it. It’s crazy to me. Maybe he’s just all about himself, so full of himself that he doesn’t care about anyone around him. Maybe, I don’t know.

Cejudo informed Albarracin he would not be part of his coaching team for his upcoming fight. Volkanovski believed Cejudo’s actions were extremely disrespectful. He said firing someone on camera just for content would make Cejudo’s image go extremely low.

Volkanovski initially wondered if the firing was staged. However, he thought Cejudo’s deep insecurities fueled the classless stunt. He said Henry Cejudo seems obsessed about his legacy and insecure about other stars shining.

Volkanovski suggested Cejudo worried about his featherweight title reign. Cejudo likely felt threatened by Volkanovski’s meteoric rise and pound-for-pound prowess. Hence, Volkanovski believed Cejudo tried to undermine him constantly. Here is what Volk said:

He’s not that bad…He’s so worried about it’s insecurities, right? He’s so worried about his legacy. He doesn’t want me to do well because I might knock him off.

Volkanovki said Cejudo’s bitterness and jealousy prompt petty behavior. After the video, Volkanovski felt Cejudo had shown true colors. He believed Cejudo possesses a selfish, petty character beneath the cringe persona. Per Volkanovski, Cejudo’s legacy obsession caused severe insecurity issues. Cejudo constantly worried about stars like Volkanovski outshining him. Cejudo tries undercutting rivals instead of focusing on his career as a result.
