The MMA community was deeply saddened by the news of Jon Jones‘s withdrawal from UFC 295. The arguable GOAT of MMA injured his tendon during a wrestling practice. However, Alexander Volkanovski funnily volunteered to replace Jones. Volkanovski had earlier replaced Charles Oliveira on a 12 days notice to face Islam Makhachev at UFC 294.

However, things did not go his way against Makhachev as the lightweight champion knocked out Volkanovski in the first round. Jones’ removal from the event was a big blow for the promotion. Nevertheless, it did not stop him from tweeting about the bout rather humorously. This is what he tweeted on X, formerly Twitter:

UFC 294 was Volkanovski’s second crack at the lightweight title as he lost a close decision to Makhachev at UFC 284. This was followed by a TKO victory over Yair Rodriguez at UFC 290. For Makhachev, this was his consecutive fight against Alexander Volkanovski. At UFC 294, Makhachev threw body kicks to set up the head kick that knocked Volkanovski out.

Nevertheless, Volkanovski using his wit was a nice thing to see. This is after he broke down at the post-fight presser of UFC 294. Before his short notice entry to UFC 294, Volkanovski was set to defend his featherweight title against Ilia Topuria at UFC 297. However, it remains to be seen whether he would be cleared to fight in the event. As of now, he was given a 45-day medical suspension.

Alexander Volkanovski did not take longer to provide a witty tweet after Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic were deemed absent for UFC 295. It did come as a relief for the MMA community after they saw the featherweight UFC champion mentally break down in the post-fight presser of UFC 294. Fans are eagerly awaiting Volkanovski’s next fight. Many want Volkanovski to fight Ilia Topuria in January whilst others recommend a longer time off due to the brutal KO loss he suffered. Nevertheless, “The Great” has garnered a huge amount of respect for his actions at UFC 294 even though it did not go in his favor in any way.
