Dominance MMA CEO Ali Abdelaziz is not having any comparisons between Charles Oliveira and Khabib Nurmagomedov. The manager believes “Do Bronx” is not the best lightweight in the world today.
Charles Oliveira has completely turned his career around and is on a dominant streak in the lightweight division. Despite being stripped of the lightweight title due to the weigh-in mishap at UFC 274, the Brazilian lightweight is still considered the champion of the 155-pound division by many.
With his rise in the lightweight division, Charles has drawn a lot of comparisons to the career of Khabib Nurmagomedov, the retired pound-for-pound champion. Not only does manager Ali Abdelaziz believe Oliveira is not the best lightweight of all time, he makes a bold statement that Oliveira is not the best lightweight even today. Abdelaziz representing, Islam Makhachev, hails the Dagestani as the best in the world today.
“I think Charles Oliveira is not the best lightweight in the world today,” boldly states Abdelaziz talking to Brett Okamoto of ESPN MMA in an interview. “I think Beneil [Dariush] can beat him, I think Islam [Makhachev] can beat him. I think Arman Tsarukyan can beat him.”
Ali Abdelaziz reminds people of Khabib’s greatness
“It is crazy how people compare him to Khabib you know?” said Abdelaziz talking to Brett Okamoto of ESPN MMA. “This guy [Oliveira] has double-digit losses. Let me remind people of who Khabib is. Never been dropped, never been knocked down, never bled in a fight. Barely lost any round or any moment in a fight.”
Despite knocking Charles for not being on the same level as Nurmagomedov. Ali sure does believe the narrative of the Brazilian lightweight being a quitter must stop. Abdelaziz truly believes Oliveira is a great fighter and respects him but to be compared to a great like Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov, Charles has to beat the likes of Islam, Beneil, and others according to Ali.
