“Thank Kamaru Usman for the headlines” Ali Abdelaziz taunts Canelo Alvarez about lack of buzz heading into fight week
Ali Abdelaziz on Kamaru Usman vs Canelo Alvarez
Ali Abdelaziz slams Canelo! Canelo Alvarez might be one of the greatest boxers of all time, he certainly is one of the highest-paid fighters ever, netting in around $160 Million for his 3 fight deal with Matchroom Boxing. However, it is difficult for boxing to grab the attention of those outside the purist circles based on Canelo’s name alone. Unless he fights established and well-known fighters like GGG, Billy Joe Saunders, or even Ceasar Chavez Jr. it’s difficult to market around a non-native English speaker based on talent alone.
Ali Abdelaziz feels this is where Kamaru stepped in and assisted the 4 weight champion. The trio has been going back and forth on Twitter for almost 2 days which all started when Abdelaziz claimed Canelo was an “absolute chicken” for fighting unknown boxers who do nothing for his legacy. According to Abdelaziz, Kamaru Usman was a genuine threat to Canelo and he understand why Canelo would avoid his client.
Canelo replied to this tweet with a simple “Who the f**k is this?” which got the ball rolling with Usman jumping in to defend his manager. The back and forth that followed saw Kamaru ask everyone to relax before someone got hurt, something that Canelo agreed with saying, “Cause it will not be me.” The exchange ended with Canelo claiming he has a legacy to make and hence has no time for Usman.

The series of tweets saw high engagement for Canelo, with the initial reply to Ali gaining more than 100k likes. Canelo who fights for the WBC Super Light heavyweight Championship will face off against undefeated reigning champion, Dimitri Bivol at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
To Ali’s credit, the dispute between the two world champions in two different sports was certainly the high point in attention for Canelo’s fight week. Each of the tweets had gained over 50K likes and had both, Canelo and Usman both trending on the platform. Ali ended the tweet wishing the Mexican good luck for his fight that is to take place the next weekend. Usman himself is set to face off against contender Leon Edwards on a yet-to-be-announced date in July.
