“I’m the Chonkmaster”- Aljamain Sterling addresses his weight gain following UFC 273 triumph
Aljamain Sterling
Aljamain Sterling was a happy man after he defied the odds and beat Petr Yan in the co-main event of the UFC 273 PPV. He showed his world-class grappling skills by taking Petr Yan down and keeping him there for the majority of the 2nd and the 3rd rounds. He won the bout via split decision. Aljamain is now taking some well-deserved time off from the game after his first title defense.
Aljamain Sterling addressed his weight gain in an interview given to ESPN MMA. He said, “Right now I’m a chonkmaster.” It’s a well-known fact that almost all the fighters go through the process of a weight cut and gain a lot of weight soon after their fight. In that interview, he said he said he is working to get his weight back to normal. Aljamain will now be preparing for his first title defense. He was able to call out former champion TJ Dillashaw who was ringside at the UFC 273. We’ll see if Aljamain faces TJ in the future or not.
“Thought I had two 10-8 rounds”- Aljamain Sterling offers his take on his fight against Petr Yan at UFC 273
In a post-fight interview given to Laura Sanko, Aljamain Sterling said he was relieved to see his hand raised at the end of the fight. But he was not completely satisfied with the scorecards. He claimed, “Thought I had two 10-8 rounds, round 2 and round 3.” It was a debatable decision whether those two rounds were 10-8 or not.
Aljamain Sterling was able to hold Yan down to the ground for the majority of those two rounds. Some people including Joe Rogan and Daniel Cormier talked about those rounds being 10-8 but most thought they were only 10-9 including Chael Sonnen. It’s clear Yan and Sterling might have to face each other in the future again for the third time.
