“How do you get it and I don’t?” Aljamain Sterling argues logic as Dana White gives greenlight to Israel Adesanya rematch against Sean Strickland after two losses in last three fights

Israel Adesanya lost the middleweight title at UFC 293 against Sean Strickland. Dana White remain open to rematch for Adesanya but not for former champion Aljamain Sterling in the bantamweight division.

Former champion Aljamain Sterling questioned Israel Adesanya‘s possible rematch against Sean Strickland in a recent video. Adesanya lost his middleweight title at UFC 293. It is true that Dana White wants both fighters to compete in a rematch. However, Sterling argued against the logic of presenting Adesanya with a rematch but not him. Sterling is deserving of a bantamweight title rematch, but the UFC looked in a different direction.

Aljamain Sterling said, “Izzy, if they give you the title shot, brother, take that s*** and run. But what I’m saying it, how do you get it and I don’t? If the fans, Dana, whoever, if they can justify that to me, I’ll be like, ‘Alright, I can see your point.’ But I don’t see the point.” The 34-year-old American MMA fighter commented about the situation on his YouTube channel.

Sterling does make sense in questioning the logic of giving Adesanya a rematch. Speaking of Sean O’Malley vs. Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292, O’Malley knocked out Sterling to win the title. However, Adesanya lost a decision against Strickland at UFC 292. Hence, someone could argue in favor of a rematch for Adesanya.

Sean O’Malley won the title on his first attempt at the title. Interestingly, the 34-year-old Sterling argued that O’Malley didn’t deserve to fight in the main event of UFC 292. O’Malley only had a win over Petr Yan in the top 15 before competing for the title. However, it did not matter as he put away Sterling in the second round.

Aljamain Sterling’s title rematch unlikely as Sean O’Malley looks for a different opponent

Sean O’Malley is looking to fight Marlon “Chito” Vera next after stunning Aljamain Sterling in the second round at UFC 292. Chito Vera remains the only fighter to defeat O’Malley in MMA. He defeated the 28-year-old by first-round TKO at UFC 252 in August 2020. Interestingly, at UFC 292, Vera defeated Pedro Munhoz unanimously after three rounds of intense tussle.

Currently, O’Malley’s likely higher-ranked contenders, such as Merab Dvalishvili and Corey Sandhagen are unavailable due to injuries. Hence, the stage is now set for the new UFC superstar’s revenge fight with the Ecuadorian fighter. O’Malley’s stardom has risen to a superstar following the title win. His followers await his next fight, which could happen in December.

Ultimately, it will be interesting to see who O’Malley will fight against to defend his title. Jon Jones compared Suga with Conor McGregor and he believed O’Malley could someday reach the level of McGregor. If things go to plan, O’Malley could return to the octagon for UFC 296.
