“Not be a super easy fight”- Aljamain Sterling considers Sean O’Malley a legitimate threat to his title

At UFC 280, the Bantamweight division underwent some shocking changes. Aljamain Sterling defended his belt against TJ Dillashaw via TKO and Sean O’Malley beat Petr Yan. This win put, O’Malley right at the front of the title contender list and Sterling also showed interest in fighting O’Malley during his post-fight interview.
Recently, the ‘Funkmaster’ shared a video on his official YouTube channel where the fighter talked about his potential fight with O’Malley. The fighter mentioned that it will not be easy work for him as O’Malley is strong. Sterling explained how O’Malley’s long reach and striking can create a lot of problems for the champ.
“This would not be a super easy fight for me with O’Malley. Don’t get it twisted. Don’t think just because I did what I did and Yan took him [O’Malley] down that you guys think it’s gonna be easy. You have to get to those positions… You have to close the gap on a guy who’s so much longer than I am, and he’s got the leverage,” said Sterling.
In the fight against Yan, O’Malley impressed the fans with his elite-level striking. He managed to land significant strikes on the guy who is considered one of the best boxers on the UFC roster. Surely, Sterling is in no mood to take O’Malley lightly.

Sean O’Malley is an amazing stand-up fighter however doesn’t necessarily have the best ground game. At UFC 280, Yan after struggling on the feet changed his game plan and later was able to dominate O’Malley by taking him down. Yan has a great wrestling technique, however, it didn’t work during the fight against Sterling. This just shows that Sterling’s ground game is amazing. However, the champion is still aware of the fact that O’Malley has a great takedown defense and it will be hard to take him down.
Sterling said: “All O’Malley needs to do is turn to his knees, but he will give up his back, yeah, so he’s gotta make sure he’s quick, but it’ll be hard for me to take him down the same way Yan took him down. He was able to get his hands down and was pretty much able to get back up in not too much of a difficult way of getting back to his feet.”
O’Malley and Sterling both are amazing fighters and will definitely give the fight fans an entertaining title showdown if it ever happens. Looking at the fight, it’s certainly going to be hard for the fans to predict the outcome of this fight.
