“No Contest due to some weird shit again”- Aljamain Sterling reacts to Petr Yan vs Sean O’Malley

Aljamain Sterling gives his thoughts on the massive development in the Bantamweight division. On ESPN’s DC & RC, Sean O’Malley disclosed that he will take on Petr Yan at UFC 280, which takes place on October 22 in Abu Dhabi. Although contracts haven’t been made public, a source familiar with the promotion’s operations tells MMA Fighting that the bout has already been verbally agreed upon.
If approved, it will be Yan’s first fight since losing by split decision at UFC 273 in April while attempting to defend his undisputed bantamweight title. Yan won the interim title against Cory Sandhagen at UFC 276 after being stripped of it by Sterling at UFC 259 in March 2021 due to an illegal knee.
Sean O’Malley feels that Aljamain Sterling vs. T.J. Dillashaw is less of a spectacle than his fight with Petr Yan

In the interview, Sean stated, “He’s obviously the No. 1 contender right now. He’s pretty much 1-1 against ‘Aljo’. He whooped Aljo in the first fight, then he got kind of whooped up in the second fight. But he could be considered the champion. The whole top 5, really — the way Petr beat Jose Aldo was one of my favourite performances of Petr Yan. So going in there and stepping up against a guy like Petr is exciting, it’s motivating, and it’s the biggest fight in the bantamweight division right now. I think it’s bigger than Aljo vs. T.J.”
The co-main event of UFC 280 at Etihad Arena on October 22 will feature the current UFC bantamweight champion competing against two-time champion T.J. Dillashaw. Originally scheduled for UFC 279 on September 10 with Sterling vs. Dillashaw, Sterling’s next championship defence will now take place at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi with Nate Diaz and Khamzat Chimaev as the main event.
Aljamain Sterling reacted upon those comments in which he stating on Twitter, “Good point! With that said, No Contest due to some weird shit again.” Here is the said Tweet:-
O’Malley is the underdog. He finished as the betting favourite in all of his prior UFC fights, but he was more than a 3-to-1 underdog against the former champion.
