MMA enthusiasts and practicing peers know of Aljamain Sterling as UFC’s bantamweight mainstay and former titleholder. But he is so much more than that. A former Cage Fury Fighting champ, he holds UFC divisional records for most consecutive wins and title defenses. Now, by his own account (@funkmasterMMA, on X), he is also a practicing real estate agent.
He is a 2-time NCAA Division III All-American wrestler with a stat of 87–27. Sterling often goes viral for grappling with peers and has a bachelor’s degree in physical education. These titbits are not all that surprising. Very recently, he also bought his fifth investment property. He happens to be a registered Estate Salesperson for Iaquinta Premier Properties (2097 Wantagh Ave, NY).
The fighter is on the official practicing listings of Realtor.com®. Sterling, 23-4 MMA, 15-4 UFC, lost his bantamweight title this past August at UFC 292. Sniped via a fateful right KO, his title gold saw a change in hands. Since then, his exploits on YouTube and ventures in Fury Pro Grappling are famed. But his other prowesses were nobody’s guess. Check out the dialogue below.
Prompted by fan-account queries (@nfotechMT/@madcat54_), ‘The Funk Master’ accordingly says he has been in the trade since 2017. Concurrently, he also nudged having a teaching degree in 2011. Aljamain Sterling often sounds off on issues of meager fighter pay. Hence, the Jamaican Yorker from Uniondale considers having options “smart”.
UFC Fight roster with other jobs: The more you know
As fight fans, we never dilute our attention towards fighters and their performances. We know all and sundry about their habitual traits, their upcoming cards, their camps, and so on. However, we often forget the flesh behind the fight. All have to have some resemblance of humble beginnings before transitioning to MMA. Aljamain Sterling is a real estate agent; here’s a list of some more:
Longtime reigning 265lber Stipe Miocic happens to be a part-time firefighter/paramedic with the Village of Valley View Fire Department. He often posts 09/11/01 snippets on social media or actively participates in the “Help Croatian Firefighters” donation campaign.
Emily Whitmire, the TUF:26 alum, waited tables for 10 years or so. She maintains a healthy association with the service industry even today, refusing to let go of her well-paying roots and learning moments. Similarly, Geoff Neal also had a job as a server.
The more profoundly known military veteran status of Matt Frevola or Benoit Saint-Denis is a common affair. Saint-Denis served in the 1st Marine Infantry Paratroopers Regiment ( RPIMa ), assigned to the French Army’s Special Forces Command.
Alongside, bantamweight Marion Reneau taught at a high school, and flyweight Roberto Sanchez is an actuary. Aljamain Sterling had joined up with bantamweight training partner Al Iaquinta as a real estate agent. He also used to be a substitute teacher.
