“This is a new era”- Aljamain Sterling seemingly dismisses Nick Diaz as a has-been after UFC 266 performance

Nick Diaz has stated he wishes to face Kamaru Usman for the title

Aljamain Sterling is on a victory tour since he was able to retain his bantamweight championship against his fierce rival Petr Yan. From receiving apology cards, to live broadcasts of people admitting that they were wrong about him, Sterling may have very well asked half of the MMA community to standby as he performs a victory lap to their faces.

However, one notable exception to take back any criticism aimed at Aljamain was the big man himself, John McCarthy. McCarthy and Josh Thompson host a podcast together where during the lead-up to Sterling’s rematch against Yan, they both gave Sterling zero chances of winning the fight. Even after Sterling regained his championship in a close fight against Yan, McCarthy refused to give him props for the game plan he was able to execute.

This seems to have bug Sterling a lot as the fighter has openly taken aim at the former UFC referee and one of the codifiers of the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts. Sterling has previously replied directly to tweets by McCarthy that are critical of him but now Sterling is watching every move McCarthy makes in his broadcast career, calling out everything he feels is bull.

Nick Diaz gets caught up in the Aljamain Sterling- John McCarthy crossfire

Aljamain Sterling x Nick Diaz
Aljamain Sterling and Big John McCarthy have been fueding over each others takes for months now

Today in one such incident, Nick Diaz was caught up in the crossfire between the two. Diaz was recently seen at a fan meet and greet where the fighter stated that he is willing to come back for a final fight but it has to be for the title against Kamaru Usman. John McCarthy said of this that Diaz would “light up” Kamaru Usman and force him to resort to wrestling, and it was just what Sterling had been waiting for.

For those who saw the return of Nick Diaz against Robbie Lawler clearly saw that the 38-year-old did not resemble anything from his pre-2015 days and was a lot slower with his punches despite the volume. Sterling said out loud what everyone was thinking, taking aim at McCarthy he said, “Can someone please stop this man? How are ppl still taking this man’s words serious?” mocking the referee for his take on the possible fight.

While asking if it was McCarthy was the one taking the shots to the head, Sterling continued, “Lol bruh, Diaz is a G, but this is a new era. I’m starting to feel like he doesn’t even watch the fights” seemingly dismissing the former Strikeforce champion as a has-been. Do you think Nick Diaz has a chance against Kamaru Usman
