UFC CEO Dana White recently took to X to divulge the next few fight cards, stepping into 2024. As such, former bantamweight titleholder Aljamain Sterling officially moves up to featherweight. The “FunkMaster” faces Calvin Kattar in his divisional debut at UFC 300, after a previous loss to Sean O’Malley. The fighter recently squabbled with the promotion, and White as an extension. This was regarding a ticket mishap that kept him from attending UFC 296.
Sterling, the Jamaican-Orthodox last incurred a TKO loss to Sean O’Malley at UFC 292. He had consequently made a case for a rematch quite a few times. But O’Malley has chosen to make his maiden defense against bantamweight #6 Marlon Vera. Sterling, and sparring partner Merab Dvalishvili both hold higher ranks; which is why they protested the choice. But with no title rematch available, he made a shift to featherweight. A prime reaction to his inclusion in the UFC 300 card says – “Aljo by TKO.”
After the announcement, the aspirant Sterling tweeted about giving the “fans a show,” thus sprouting a plethora of fan reactions. He even consequently took to his YouTube account to mention the same on his channel. Previously the fighter had welcomed the notion of facing Max Holloway in his featherweight debut.
The fight takes place on April 13, 2024, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. White said none of the announced bouts will be the main/co-main event of the pay-per-view card, which has already garnered much anticipation.
