Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena are set to run it back again for the third time at UFC 289. The pair have fought each other twice already in the last two consecutive outings. After announcing the fight, Amanda Nunes seems ready for the trilogy fight. Nunes revealed that she’d been consistently training and doesn’t mind defending the title against Pena.

She said: “I always say I leave it to what UFC decides. I’m ready, I’ve been training, I’m healthy. So, whatever UFC wants to do… I don’t have any problems with defending my belt against her.”

Fans were expecting Nunes to fight Irene Aldana, as the Mexican is one of the top contenders for the belt. Rightly so, Nunes likewise thought the same. However, stated that UFC had other plans for her.

“I did [think it would be Aldana]. I thought it was gonna be her. Everything changed to Julianna and I was okay with it, too. No matter what, whatever UFC showed me the opponent, I’m gonna be happy to defend my belt,” said Nunes. Pena in the last fight survived five rounds against a dominating Nunes and that might be the reason why she again got an opportunity to fight for the belt.
