“I even tried to poke her”- Amanda Nunes was surprised by Julianna Pena’s conduct at TUF 30
Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena
Julianna Penna and Amanda Nunes fought against each other at UFC 269 and it was one of the biggest nights in recent UFC history. Originally the fight was scheduled to take place on UFC 265 but later was transferred to UFC 269. During the build-up to the fight, both fighters were extremely verbal against each other. The competitiveness was visible as both the fighters weren’t backing down at all.
On the fight night, both the fighters went all out and in the first round, Nunes showed her dominance. As everything was going as expected, Penna bounced back in the second round and submitted the champion with a rear-naked choke and giving the fight fans one of the biggest upsets in UFC history.
Pena has been talking a lot of trash since their first fight, and now they are facing each other in the 30th season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter.’ Nunes is looking to avenge her loss, and reinstate herself as the only double champ in the history of the UFC.

“I don’t know if she was faking it”- Amanda Nunes expected a lot of trash talk from Julianna Pena
Nunes took notice of Pena’s trash talk, and she expected a lot of animosity from her during TUF 30. Much to her surprise, Pena behaved completely and Nunes was surprised. Talking on MMA Fighting’s Trocação Franca podcast, she said, “Since Julianna was talking a lot, being the trash talker she is, I thought she would really bring that to TUF, but it didn’t go as I expected.”
“She was cool, completely different from who she really is,” Pena added. “I don’t know if she was faking it because it would air on TV and she doesn’t want bad publicity. She’s too much, and everything’s full of Julianna already, imagine if she’s the way she is on TUF. I think it wouldn’t be good for her, so I think she held back a little bit.”
“I even tried to poke her a little bit to see if I could get something out of her but didn’t get much. I didn’t understand much of it. I really expected something completely different than what she was on the show,” Pena concluded.
