UFC Light Heavyweight Anthony Smith loved what he saw in the co-main event by Luke Rockhold. Lionheart reacted to the former UFC champion announcing his retirement after his fight at UFC 278.

Rockhold was coming off after a 3-year break from the octagon. He was taking on the former title Challenger Paulo Costa in the co-main event last weekend. The former champion was on a 2 fight-losing skid before his break from the octagon in 2019. On the other hand, Costa who was undefeated before challenging the champion for the title. He lost two of his previous two bouts and was looking to get back to the win column.

Although the former champion started with a good pace the altitude got to him. As he slowed down considerably as the fight progressed. Even though he was fatigued he fought his heart out and even had Costa hurt on some occasions.

After a battle with Costa, the former champion came up short on the judge’s scorecard. He announced his retirement from the sport in the post-fight octagon chat with Joe Rogan.

Rockhold was filled with emotions after the fight and with a heavy heart announced, “I’ve been through so much the last few years, I f*cking … thank you, fighting. Thank you, UFC. Thank you, Joe. I fcking can’t do this sh*t anymore. I gave it my all. I just didn’t … I’m f*cking old.”

In an episode of ‘ Believe You Me‘ podcast, Anthony Smith along with Michael Bisping talked about the UFC 278 fight card, Edwards’s win over Usman in a devastating fashion, Costa and Rockhold’s insane fight and Luke’s subsequent retirement following his loss in the co-main event.

Smith who has had beef in the past with Rockhold and has exchanged some heated words with the former champion. Lionheart hailed the former champion for fighting his heart out and showing raw emotions. While on the topic he stated, “It was raw. It was so raw, Where was this f*cking guy 10 years ago? He’d be a f*cking superstar. I can get behind that guy. That guy who’s like, ‘I’m f*cking old,’ I’m with you. I can get behind that guy.”

“I see Luke Rockhold quitting, I’m watching him look for the door, He’s looking for a way out and then decided not to take it, and that happened more than twice. It happened more than three times where he decided I don’t f*cking want to be here anymore and on his way to quitting, turned around before he got there and battled his way back into it. Personally, Luke and I don’t like each other.” Anthony added.

“But I can respect being exhausted, being in a really hard fight with a really heavy hitter, with a guy who’s walking you down, and you’re so f*cking tired you can’t even breathe, and you got your nose splashed all the way across your face, you can barely stand up but still mustering the ability to battle back and stay in there and kind of give the fans a treat they didn’t deserve, because you should have been finished a long time ago.” Smith praised Rockhold for his performance in the co-main event.
