“Diaz has one advantage,” Anthony Smith reacts to Khamzat Chimaev vs Nate Diaz fight announcement for UFC 279
Nate Diaz- Anthony Smith- Khamzat Chimaev
Nate Diaz vs Khamzat Chimaev is down the road come September of this year and Anthony Smith had some thoughts whilst wearing his analyst’s hat. Smith, a former UFC light-heavyweight title challenger, is fighting this weekend at UFC 277 as he will face the dark horse of the 205-lbs division in Magomed Ankalaev. Smith is 36-16 in his overall MMA career with 33 finishes and is currently on a 3-fight winning streak. Smith’s wins include the likes of Alexander Gustafsson, Volkan Oezdemir, Rashad Evans, Mauricio Rua and many more.
Diaz vs Chimaev was first announced by Brett Okamoto from ESPN MMA confirming the fight to take place on September 10, 2022, at UFC 279 and will be a 5-round main event going into the fight card. Diaz and Chimaev both were asked to fight each other for several months before the deal finally came to fruition. This will be Diaz’s last UFC fight as his contract gets over and pay-wise, this can be Chimaev’s biggest fight of his career.
Anthony Smith believes that Nate Diaz will stand out in the Khamzat Chimaev fight with this “uncanny ability”
In an interview with James Lynch under the banner of Middle Easy, Smith talked elaborately about his upcoming fight with Ankalaev, his recovery from a knee injury, him switching training camps and much more. After that Lynch came and asked Smith about how sees the Diaz vs Chimaev booking and the fight going down.
“I am kinda happy for those guys,” says Smith “Nate gets what he wants, he wants to be out of his contract, he wanted to fight… it’s a pretty tough way to go out the door. As much as I can say, Chimaev’s the powerful striker, he’s the more technical guy and he’s the better wrestler. The only thing that I can definitely give a place that Nate Diaz has an advantage is in his conditioning and maybe his submission ability. But Diaz is Diaz, he can mess around and make fight tough for anybody… he got this uncanny ability to make people look bad…” continues Smith.
What do you think about Smith’s thoughts on Diaz vs Chimaev matchup? Who do you think would win between Diaz and Chimaev? Who do you think wins between Smith and his upcoming opponent in Ankalaev? After his UFC tenure has ended, Diaz is likely to experiment with his stardom when he will step into the arena of exhibition boxing and try to compete himself against huge names.
