Currently, Dana White and Francis Ngannou are in a middle of a beef which started since the former UFC champion left the promotion. After Ngannou announced his PFL along with the contract details, White went on a rant criticizing Ngannou and PFL for the deal.
White mentioned that the deal doesn’t make sense as Ngannou won’t be fighting for another year. On top of it, White claimed that Ngannou was scared of Jon Jones. This made the heavyweight fighter furious who showed his frustration on Twitter.
Ariel Helwani who historically has a rift with White in his YouTube show, went on a rant against the president of UFC. He said: “Between February of 2019 and January of 2022, which is three years, he fought five times. Now he hasn’t fought in 18 months because he’s coming off ACL surgery and was a free agent and had to deal with all that. So to frame that he hasn’t fought, he fights once every year…is a bullsh*t way of framing all of this.”
Helwani systemically negated all the points made by White while criticizing Ngannou in his interview. Ariel continued: “Like, literally, that guy [Francis Ngannou] put his life on the line multiple times, was put in detention centers multiple times, had to jump off rafts, had to swim…had to live homeless. That guy doesn’t wanna take risks? What are we talking about now? This has become so ridiculous.” The Journo pointed out how Dana White was hypocritical throughout his interview just to prove a point.
Dana White’s old beef with fighters who refused to work with him
It’s not the first time Dana White is having a beef with a former UFC fighter who decided to walk out of the promotion. In the past, White and UFC legend Randy Couture had a fallout for a similar reason.
It started when Couture felt that White was disappointed in him and didn’t see his potential as a fighter and pushed other fighters instead of him. This led Couture to develop a bad taste towards White which gradually continued.
Dana White extended a job offer to Couture to be an analyst at UFC after his retirement, but Couture turned it down, calling the pay “peanuts,” and publicly dissing White in the process.
This made White to snap back at Couture and after that he never lost a chance to diss the retired UFC fighter. “I don’t respect him at all,” White said. “Not even a little bit. Randy Couture, the only time Randy Couture is a man is when he sets foot in the cage. As soon as his big toe steps out of that cage, he’s the furthest thing from it. That’s it, that’s the way I feel about it.” White said in an interview.
White is a very sensitive individual when it comes to his company and his relationship with fighters. He often treats his fighters extremely well if they do good for the company however, in the opposite scenario, White doesn’t hold back against fighters who go against UFC.
