Arman Tsarukyan secured a highlight win over Beneil Dariush. He defeated Dariush with a KO at the main event of UFC Fight Night Austin on ESPN. Tsarukyan bagged his win in little more than a minute, connecting with a fateful right hand. Now, the lightweight contender believed his UFC Austin performance outdid Charles Oliveira‘s performance against Dariush at UFC 289.
The Armenian-Russian fighter mentioned how he was able to deal with Dariush better than Oliveira. In the post-fight press conference this is what he had to say:
Charles (Oliveira) knocked him out, and if I won by decision, how am I going to fight for the title? But I knocked him out faster than Charles, and he didn’t take me down like he did with Charles. I performed better than Charles. Charles already had the opportunity, so it’s my time right now.
Oliveira was to face off with the lightweight champion at UFC 294. But having incurred a cut above his eyebrow during training, he had to pull out. Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski was thus the short-notice replacement. Oliveira hopes to let a title shot play out next, facing Makhachev.
Meanwhile, Justin Gaethje, who knocked out Dustin Poirier to win the BMF title at UFC 291, wants a shot at Islam Makhachev. With his win against Dariush, Tsarukyan justifiably feels deserving of a chance though.
Arman Tsarukyan KOs Beneil Dariush in 64 seconds straight
Fighting in the UFC on ESPN 52 event Saturday in Austin, Texas, Arman Tsarukyan made waves. He defeated Beneil Dariush in just over a minute in the main event, at the Moody Center, Texas. The fight was high-octane from the get-go, with Tsarukyan maintaining a strong footing.
Tsarukyan got the job done with a spectacular knockout. The cumulative shots wobbled Dariush to the canvas. It was soon followed up with three more right-handed shots that did the deed, knocking out Dariush.
The victory thus extends Tsarukyan’s winning streak to three. His 2 career losses came against Mateusz Gamrot and champion Islam Makhachev, who the fighter aims to face soon. Dariush, on the other hand, is now on a two-fight loss streak. His previous outing was a first-round TKO loss to Charles Oliveira, at UFC 289.
