Belal Muhammed recently posted a video on Instagram about Charles Oliveira. Muhammed provided his take on Oliveira not fighting in the main event of UFC 294 against Islam Makhachev.
Charles Oliveira pulled out of his title fight at UFC 294 due to injury. He suffered a gnarly cut on his eyebrow which forced his withdrawal. Oliveira was replaced by Alexander Volkanovski. Belal Muhammad on Instagram provided his take on the matter.
Muhammad said, “Charles never wanted to go to Abu Dhabi. He never wanted to fight in enemy territory as he said. He wanted it where he wanted it.” Muhammad further took a dig at the former lightweight champion, “Do I say he did it purposely? Who knows? But, he chose not to fight.“
Belal Muhammad and Charles Oliveira do not have any existing beef. However, Muhammad is close with Islam Makhachev and other fighters from Dagestan. He notably trained with Team Dagestan for his fight against Sean Brady at UFC 280. Khabib Nurmagomedov was in his corner for the fight. Moreover, Muhammad is represented by Ali Abdelaziz who is also the manager of Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Muhammad has not fought since his victory over Gilbert Burns at UFC 288. “Remember the Name” and “Durinho” were guaranteed a title shot by Dana White if victorious at UFC 288. However, the Colby Covington vs Leon Edwards matchup took a longer time to make. Edwards and Covington will be fighting in the main event of UFC 296. As per Abdelaziz, Muhammad is expected to fight the winner of the bout.
Belal Muhammad cites Anthony Pettis as an example after Charles Oliveira’s withdrawal at UFC 294
In light of Charles Oliveira’s withdrawal from UFC 294, Belal Muhammad has some words to say. Muhammad did not hold back on criticizing Oliveira. He further talked about the events before his teammate, Anthony Pettis‘ fight with Dustin Poirier. Apparently, Pettis split his eyebrow open, 10 days before the fight.
Muhammad said in an Instagram video, “The world did not know about it. Anthony got it surgically repaired. Stitched up.” He further praised Pettis, “But he still went there and fought.”
The Instagram video caught the attention of Pettis himself who commented, “Damn forgot all about that lol @bullyb170 Sh*t busted open first punch he thru. Couldn’t see that whole fight and I swear I had him in a deep a*s triangle when the ref decided to break us up and check my cut.” Apparently, Pettis forgot about the incident and Muhammad’s video reminded him of it.
However, the fight did not go in favor of Pettis against Poirier. He lost the fight via submission in the third round of the five-round fight. Pettis is currently a free agent. Post his UFC tenure, he dabbled unsuccessfully in the PFL. “Showtime” most recently fought Roy Jones Jr. in a professional boxing bout winning via majority decision.
