Belal Muhammad is riding high on confidence after his victory against Vicente Luque in the main event of UFC Fight Night. He executed his game plan perfectly for the full course of his fight. He used leg licks to keep Vicente Luque at bay and then set him up for takedowns. Many UFC veterans like Daniel Cormier and Henry Cejudo praised him for his victory.
In the post-fight interview, he called out the number one welterweight contender Colby Covington. Although Dana said Khamzat and Colby will fight in the near future, Belal still shoots his shot-calling Dana White for a fight against either Colby or Khamzat. If Belal ever faces Colby or Khamzat remains to be seen.
“I really expected him to fight orthodox” Vicente Luque says Belal Muhammad perplexed him with his style
Vicente Luque was not happy with his performance in his main event loss at UFC Vegas to Belal Muhammad. He said Belal confused him with his style. Vicente was taken down several times during their bout. His take-down defense was not up to the mark against Belal.
In an interview with Ag Fight, he said “The stance switching really confused me. I wasn’t expecting it. I really expected him to fight orthodox like he does most fights, so I was surprised.” Vicente was a serious contender for the title before his defeat to Belal. Now it might take him a few victories to get back into title contention again.
Vicente last won in August against Michael Chiesa after choking him out in a spectacular fashion. He also holds the record for the most D Arce choke in UFC history. He has defeated many celebrated fighters like Tyron Woodley and Niko Price. We’ll have to wait and see what his future in the welterweight division looks like.
