Last May at UFC 288, Gilbert Burns lost a lopsided unanimous decision to Belal Muhammad. Burns suffered an injury in the first round and could overcome it. With a deep shoulder injury, Burns had worn out throughout the UFC 288 matchup. Eventually, Belal won the matchup, but fans criticized him for not finishing a one-armed Burns.
Recently, Burns stated that he would have won the bout if it weren’t for the injury. Belal Muhammad heard about the comment and replied with a satirical retort. This is what he said:
Imagine a day when a fighter gives no excuses for a loss a just tries to get better...Belal Muhammad via TMZ
Burns avoided surgery and is ready to jump into camp and book a fight. He has mentioned having a full range of motion on his shoulders. Muhammad, however, has taunted the fighter on supposedly coming up with an excuse for his consequent skid. This is not the only fighter Muhammad has hit with such a claim. The same was said of Charles Oliveira.
Belal Muhammad carefully observes the UFC 296 title bout featuring Leon Edwards and Colby Covington. He could fight for the title next, considering his unbeaten streak.
Charles Oliveira responds to Belal Muhammad’s UFC 294 withdrawal claim
Charles Oliveira was set to face lightweight champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 294. But “Do Bronx” incurred a cut in training above his eyebrow, which resulted in his withdrawal. Thus, featherweight Alexander Volkanovski stepped in to face Makhachev on very short notice. Amidst all these, Belal Muhammad had blamed Oliveira for tactfully ducking the bout.
The welterweight contender had instigated quite a stir, claiming that Oliveira got what he wanted as a settled challenger. Moreover, he even insisted that the fighter might have gotten intentionally cut to avoid the hassle of facing the lightweight king, Makhachev. During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Olveira had sternly retorted back. Check out what he said below:
Following Dagestani’s first-round KO win at UFC 294, Oliveira has stated to be next in line. He remains keen to prove his doubters and the likes of Muhammad wrong, once and for all. The rematch will likely happen in 2024, but no clear date remains as of now.
