Recently, UFC CEO Dana White praised the welterweight champion Leon Edwards as an ‘absolute stud.’ He said so because ‘Rocky’ accepted three different opponents to feature in the historic UFC 300. Now, reports suggested the #2 ranked welterweight contender Belal Muhammad wasn’t one of them. However, Edwards didn’t make the final fight card as White announced Alex Pereira vs. Jamahal Hill for the main event of UFC 300.
According to the popular MMA reporter The Schmo, the UFC didn’t offer Leon Edwards a fight with Belal Muhammad. Considering Belal was the #2 ranked welterweight and had a ten-fight unbeaten streak going, he was the rightful challenger. But the UFC didn’t even offer the champion his name for his title defense in UFC 300. As such, this shocked the whole MMA community.
Earlier, rumors insinuated a potential matchup between Leon Edwards and Belal Muhammad for UFC 300. Muhammad even aided the support of Khabib Nurmagomedov in his fight preparations. However, the UFC didn’t think of it as a possible matchup for the historic event. Later, recent speculations had Edwards facing Khamzat Chimaev. But it also didn’t materialize.
Leon Edwards previously defended his title against Colby Covington at UFC 296. Arguably, Belal Muhammad deserved the title shot more than ‘Chaos.’ So, the UFC assured him a title fight next. But, according to the latest reports, it wasn’t a possibility for UFC 300. As such, Muhammad vs. Edwards could go down in UFC’s return to the UK.
