“Never gonna say no,” Belal Muhammad on what’s it like fighting during Ramadaan, processes a verbal go-through for fans post UFC Vegas 51 victory
Belal Muhammad
UFC Welterweight Belal Muhammad is now looking forward to just the fights that would exponentially magnify attention on his skillset. With names like those of former title challengers Gilbert Burns and Colby Covington and undefeated prospect Khamzat Chimaev ahead, Muhammad has the biggest opportunities of his career to make more of the MMA community ‘Remember The Name’
As for the current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, he is fighting Leon Edwards sometime soon in near future, so how it plays out will determine Muhammad’s likelihood of getting the title shot at least by next year, provided he keeps on winning.
Muhammad is coming off two biggest wins of his career in both of his last two fights i.e. against Stephen Thompson in December 2021 and Vicente Luque on the very recent UFC Vegas 51. Muhammad is now the #5 ranked welterweight with a professional record of 21-3 and a no-contest. What is the most commendable trait about Muhammad so far is his consistency to keep on fighting. Muhammad has been fighting 5-fights in the past 15 months and this time he was fighting during Ramadan, whilst keeping his ritual of fasting.
Belal Muhammad talks about taking in the right diet as a pro-fighter is the key to good training sessions
“Every year I tell myself like no more Ramadan camps,” says Muhammad “[But] then they [the UFC] always keep calling me for it and I am a guy that’s never gonna say no… I don’t really care about the date, they call me with the five-round main event, I’m gonna take it… every night it has to be like a weight cut so like…
…I’m waking up at 5 a.m. and I have to eat the right carbs, I have to eat right rice, white potatoes, get my protein in and make sure I’m getting the right fluids and I have to get the right liquids… I do it very smart, if I don’t get the right things in the next morning my whole practice is going to be trash,” he concludes.
Muhammad tells how he used to have two training sessions before breaking his fast in the evening and starting to train again at night after the food is digested. Through thick and thin, Muhammad’s teammates helped him get through the fight camp by keeping the fast alongside him. What do you make of Muhammad’s Ramadan schedule? Who do you want Muhammad to fight next? Muhammad is now going to have some serious grappling tests against any of the potential opponents in wrestlers like Covington and Chimaev and BJJ specialists like Burns.
