Belal Muhammad could become the next challenger to face champion Leon Edwards. He is on a 10-fight unbeaten streak. Belal has gunned for a title contention bout for a long while. But “Rocky” has been very dismissive of the Palestinian peer. Recently, he even mocked Muhammad for being “the least intimidating person.” A recent post though sees him in association with AKA coach Javier Mendez and Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s team.
The UFC 296 victory against “Chaos” marks 22-3 Edwards’ second title run defense. He bagged the welterweight gold from then-champion and former P4P king Kamaru Usman at UFC 278. Muhammad and Edwards last squared off on March 14th at UFC Fight Night, in UFC APEX, Las Vegas. The bout resulted in a no-contest after a second-round accidental eye poke to the welterweight contender.
In the latest sitdown with ESPN MMA’s Marc Raimondi, Muhammad again expressed his title aspirations. Prompting that he’s “at the top of the line” to face Edwards, he had even been critical and fired vigorous insults at UFC 296’s all-out welterweight headliner. Now, new circulating news suggests that Muhammad would be training in Dagestan with “The Eagle” and his team, in his full camp.
Nurmagomedov founded the Eagles MMA and also promoted the Eagle Fighting Championship (EFC), after his retirement. As such, Muhammad maintains a close acquaintance with most of the Dagestani peers at Amercian Kickboxing Academy.
Ali Abdelaziz hints at Belal Muhammad entering training camp with Team Khabib
Leon “Rocky” Edwards recently got a hero’s welcome home, after defeating Colby Covington. The massive homecoming discourse at halftime during Aston Villa’s home win against Burnley saw him make some announcements. The Birmingham native stated that he is in active talks for a title defense at UFC 300. Now, welterweight contender Belal Muhammad is aspiring for the same.
Muhammad has engaged in numerous callouts and bash-downs of the current champion, in hopes of a title contention. Currently, though, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s manager Ali Abdelaziz (of Dominance MMA Management) has shed some light on the same. Check out the tweet below.
Abdelaziz whiffed in that Muhammad might be moving to Dagestan to train with ‘Team Khabib’ as part of a full camp. If so, then in all probability it is for a welterweight showdown with Edwards around the horizon. Only time would tell if such a rumored transition would pay off in the future, for Muhammad.
