UFC Welterweight Belal Muhammad is looking forward to coming closer to title contention as he paved his way through his last victory against Stephen Thompson, winning unanimously on judges’ scorecards back in December 2021. Muhammad then was ranked #9 and after the victory took Thompson’s spot of #5. Now Muhammad is supposed to face his fears as he will overcome his second career loss to avenge it in a rematch this weekend against Vicente Luque.
Both Muhammad and Luque are 10-1 in their last 11 fights with Muhammad having a little setback from a no-contest against upcoming UFC title challenger Leon Edwards. Muhammad is 20-3 in his overall MMA career and Luque is 21-7. Both Muhammad and Luque fought each other back in November 2016 at UFC 205 when Luque knocked out Muhammad in the very first round.

In a brief interview with TMZ Sports, Muhammad talks about his preparation for Luque’s fight this weekend at UFC on ESPN 34, his take on fellow welterweight Khamzat Chimaev’s victory at UFC 273, and much more. In the end, Muhammad gives his prediction on the rematch and assures us how it will be different from the first fight.
“Honestly I get a lot of haters and doubters but I think I am going to finish him. I am going to go out there… I will show those guys last week (talking about Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns who fought at UFC 273) and the way I will show them, is by getting a finish and getting a dominant finish,” says Muhammad.
What do you make of Muhammad’s take on Luque rematch? Do you think he will get the job done in the rematch, unlike the last time these two fought each other? Muhammad’s wrestling and that too with constant pressure is Luque’s key to victory, Luque, however, has shown tremendous grappling skills in his last few fights which are now coupled with his foundation in his exceptional standup skills, this is definitely a notable fight for Muhammad and a way to shut doubters for once and for all.
