Dana White recently declared UFC 288 fight card for its co-main event. And as it stands, Belal Muhammad versus Gilbert Burns will replace Olivera-Dariush’s fight due to Olivera’s unprecedented injury.
Belal Muhammad is hoping to have a ‘Nate Diaz’ moment against Gilbert Burns at UFC 288. Muhammad recently went on the ‘Anik & Florian Podcast,’ where he gave more context as to what he meant.
Belal Muhammad accused Gilbert Burns of stealing his opportunities and the things he wanted in the UFC. “This guy’s taking everything I worked for,” he said. He further revealed how he wanted the Khamzat Chimaev fight, which Burns got. Then a fight against Jorge Masvidal, whom Gilbert Burns recently defeated at UFC 287. And now they’re talking about Burns fighting for the title, and Belal Muhammad will have none of it.
“You want to give him everything that I want? I’m going to have to take it from him,” Muhammad says. Belal Muhammad and “Durinho” are set to face each other at the UFC 288 co-main event on May 6 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The duo is taking the fight on very short notice, setting themselves up for a title contender ship very soon. Belal Muhammad comes into this fight with a record of 22-3 with an eight-fight winning streak. Meanwhile, Burns recently defeated UFC veteran Jorge Masvidal and comes in with a 22-5 record.

Henry Cejudo on Muhammad vs Burns
Henry Cejudo recently gave his two cents on Muhammad vs. Burns for UFC 288 co-main event. The former two-division champ praised Muhammad and Durinho for taking the fight on such short notice. ‘“It’s one thing to talk smack on Twitter,…” Cejudo writes on Twitter. “…but to actually sign on the dotted line on 2 weeks’ notice means your loyal to your dream. Winner gets a welterweight title shot next.”
Henry Cejudo is also set to be in action as he makes his return to the Octagon at UFC 288 after a three-year hiatus. The 36-year-old will fight Aljamain Sterling on May 6 in the main event for the Bantamweight title.
Whoever wins between Muhammad and Burns will face Colby Covington and earn the chance for the Welterweight title shot. Will Belal Muhammad continue his winning streak, or will Durinho sneak away the title shot from him? Only time will tell.
