“Send the date and location”- Ben Askren hits back at Jorge Masvidal after ‘Gamebred’ expressed desire in a wrestling contest
Ben Askren- Jorge Masvidal
Former 2-time Olympian qualifier, former Bellator MMA champion, former ONE FC champion, UFC welterweight Ben Askren might’ve given his last shot in competitive combat sports by fighting and losing to Jake Paul in the boxing match, however, seems like that competitive hunger is much harder to calm down than to arise it. Askren, who dominated the welterweight competition outside the UFC, was on a 19-fight winning streak where he dominated the likes of Douglas Lima, Andrey Koreshkov, Shinya Aoki and many more.
Askren in his UFC debut, won in a fashionable manner by a first-round submission against former UFC champion Robbie Lawler. Askren’s downfall, however, was a nasty one. Askren in his second UFC fight fought an already longtime UFC fighter in Jorge Masvidal in 2019. The fight ended in just 5 seconds with Masvidal knocking out Askren with a flying knee. Askren went on to lose his third fight against Demian Maia before finally hanging up his gloves.
Ben Askren wants to rub Jorge Masvidal’s face on the mat
Ever since his retirement, Askren competed once against Jake Paul in the aforementioned boxing match where Paul knocked out Askren in the first round. Now, after years from the fight that settled their bad blood, UFC megastar Jorge Masvidal decided to propose a wrestling match against the grappling specialist in Askren. The proposal was made by Masvidal on Jake Paul’s elder brother Logan Paul’s podcast Impaulsive.
Askren took to Twitter and said “[3 lookup emojis]. Send date and location. It would be a pleasure to rub his face in the mat.” It seems like Asken is down for anything competitive as long as it’s a grappling contest now since that has always been Askren’s speciality throughout his MMA career.
What do you think about this rematch, just with different set of results? Who do you think takes this one? Masvidal has acknowledged being held back against fighters with a strong wrestling pedigree and therefore needs some legit learning experience in order to accelerate his potential to go for the title shot one last time as he nears his retirement in few years.
