“Third-round stoppage for Charles” – Beneil Dariush picks Charles Oliveira over Islam Makhachev in confused prediction

UFC 280 is around the corner and is considered the biggest pay-per-view event of the year 2022. In the headline fight, Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira will fight it out for the UFC lightweight title. Ahead of the fight, Beneil Dariush, who was close to getting a title shot chose his fighter for the night.
Dariush recently did a virtual interview with Firstsportz.com where the fighter opened up about his prediction, however, he was visibly confused about his choice. Dariush initially mentioned that he thinks Oliveira will win the fight but later changed it to Makhachev. According to the fighter, it is a very close fight to call and he might change his opinions later.
He said: “I have changed my predictions so many times, I feel like but I’m gonna go with a third-round stoppage for Charles. I thought Islam is gonna win at first but I’m gonna go with Makhachev now. I don’t even know, I might change that tomorrow. It’s really hard to tell, it’s such a good fight.”
Dariush’s reaction to the bout sums up how most of the fans feel about the fight. It is one of those showdowns where nothing is inclined toward a single fighter. Nevertheless, on Saturday everything will be clear.
Volkanovski hijacked Beneil Dariush’s backup fighter spot for the fight between Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev
Beneil Dariush was scheduled to fight Islam Makhachev earlier this year in order to decide the reserving title contender. However, before the fight, Dariush suffered an ankle injury and had no other option but to pull out his name. Makhachev had to fight Bobby Green and he won that fight increasing his winning streak. As a result, Makhachev got a title shot by default as everybody else had already lost to Oliveira.
Dariush has already recovered and is also featured at UFC 280 and will fight against Mateusz Gamrot. Coming to his fight against Gamrot, Dariush was informed that he is the backup fighter for the main event of UFC 280. However, Alexander Volkanovski showed interest in the same and Dariush had to let go of the opportunity to be the backup fighter for the title fight.
