“Did he just preach Christianity to people of Iran?” – Beneil Dariush’s controversial speech after amazing win at UFC 280 gets mixed reactions
Beneil Dariush shows support to Iran
Beneil Dariush took UFC 280 to remind the world how good of a lightweight fighter he is. The top-ranked lightweight however has people talking about his post-fight speech more than his performance during the fight.
The fans at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi got to witness an absolute masterclass from the veteran, Beneil Dariush at UFC 280. The top-ranked lightweight accepted to take the challenge of fighting rising lightweight talent in Mateusz Gamrot.
After his amazing victory against Gamrot, Dariush took the opportunity on the microphone to talk about a major social issue that is taking place in the county of Iran. Dariush who is an Iranian-American himself took the moment to say, “I need to dedicate this fight. My people in Iran, I know you’re struggling. I know you’re fighting for freedom.”

The fighter then went on to preach the religion of Christianity and suggested “real freedom” existed in Christianity. The Abu Dhabi crowd was not very receptive to that octagon speech. Dariush has been a very straightforward person throughout his career and has never backed down from saying what he believes is right.
The fans had mixed reactions after watching Dariush’s post-fight octagon interview. Dariush himself was born in Goltappeh of Iran in the year 1989. Dariush took his moment to show support for his country at UFC 280.

Props to Beneil Dariush (@beneildariush) who just dedicated his #ufc280 victory to the people of Iran fighting for their freedom. And doing so in Abu Dhabi only about 800 miles from Tehran. #IranProtests #IranRevoIution2022 pic.twitter.com/Y0Wt6QkSXt

Fam. Beneil Dariush, a homeboy originally from Iran, proclaiming to a probably 99.9% Islamic crowd in Abu Dhabi after his UFC win a few minutes ago that true freedom is found in Jesus Christ just sent chills down my spine. Aspirational goals! I no sure say I fit do am.
