Brazilian jiu-jitsu superstar Gordon Ryan has made his response to former UFC fighter Mark Hunt‘s fight callout. Ryan has dedicated numerous years to establishing his reputation as an exceptional grappler and a Brazilian jiu-jitsu sensation. Finally, his efforts are starting to gain the recognition they deserve. The sequence of events leading to this began with Ryan expressing favorable views on the UFC’s choice to discontinue its association with the anti-doping agency USADA.
Hunt, out of nowhere, expressed his discontent with the situation, casting doubt on the 28-year-old’s fighting abilities. Mark questioned, “What does this idiot know about fighting?” He suggested that Gordon Ryan should partake in at least one legitimate fight before he commences speaking with such disrespect. Hunt even thought about the possibility of consuming PEDs and confronting Ryan to gauge his reaction.
After Hunt’s aggressive remark and callout, Ryan didn’t sit silently and immediately came back with a response. “If you read the post, you’d either see the validity in the arguments or offer up a decent rebuttal that was factually based. You did nothing but blabber out of your fat, miserable mouth. We can fight any time you’d like. You may very well knock me out before I get a hold of a legs. But then again, you also may not, and I’m very willing to take my chances. Miserable f***,” he wrote.
Ryan countered Hunt’s insults, urging him to provide a more respectable response to his comments. Following this, ‘The King’ accepted the former UFC fighter’s challenge to engage in a fight. Ryan conceded the possibility of Hunt landing a knockout blow during the fight but expressed his readiness to seize the opportunity.
UFC legend doesn’t think Gordon Ryan should leave BJJ to make his MMA debut
Chael Sonnen has expressed the view that Gordon Ryan’s transition to MMA is unnecessary, given his significant role in the world of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. According to Sonnen, Ryan is actively contributing to the growth and accessibility of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, effectively establishing himself as a prominent figure in the sport. Sonnen has argued that it would be more advantageous for Ryan to continue his career in BJJ rather than make the switch to MMA.
Sonnen considers this situation to be quite unique, and he believes that the jiu-jitsu community, despite its lack of prominent leadership, should come together to support Gordon and encourage him to stay in the sport. He acknowledges Ryan’s potential to elevate the status of Brazilian jiu-jitsu and serve as an influential figure for the younger generation of practitioners.
Sonnen sees Gordon Ryan as a valuable asset to the world of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, not only for his exceptional skills but also for his ability to draw attention to the sport and inspire new enthusiasts. He argues that by staying in BJJ, Ryan can help shape its future, promote its growth, and act as a role model for up-and-coming talents. Sonnen’s stance highlights the belief that, in this particular case, maintaining a strong presence within Brazilian jiu-jitsu might be more beneficial for both Ryan and the sport itself than venturing into the realm of MMA.
