Bo Nickal made his debut at UFC 285 in the opening bout. He fought Jamie Pickett and established his dominance to get the submission victory in the very first round. However, The former College Wrestling phenom’s victory stood controversial after the fight for an apparent low blow.
The ‘alleged’ low blow in the fight in a clinch situation went unnoticed by the referee. It led to the eventual takedown that helped him secure a submission finish over Pickett. Since then on social media, fans have pointed out the low blow as a probable cause for the win. Nickal was asked about the same in his media appearance after the event. He responded, “I don’t want to win that way. I’m not a cheater, I’m not somebody that tries to take shortcuts.
Bo Nickal will look to fight soon, considering he did not take any damage in his fight against Pickett. Pickett’s management is believed to try to appeal to the Athletic Commission to convert the result into a no-contest. The main reason for the appeal is that the low blow led to the fight ending sequence. It remains to be seen if the result of the fight gets overturned.

I hope @NoBickal inspires more elite wrestlers to make the transition to MMA. No better background in the sport ? #UFC285

However, the submission was incorrect, as Cejudo thought it would be a Rear-Naked Choke finish. Nickal, in the fight, tried to get a Rear-Naked Choke finish, but his opponent was unwilling to give up the back. This led Nickal to pursue an Arm Triangle Choke to get the victory.
Cejudo has high hopes for Nickel’s MMA career and hopes that Nickal will inspire other College Wrestlers to transition to MMA. Nickal will look to fight at least two more times this year, and Cejudo is preparing for his Bantamweight Title fight in May.
