Brandon Moreno breaks silence over Brazillian fans insulting him post his win against Deiveson Figueiredo
The rivalry between Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo concluded in a very anti-climatic and controversial fashion. Brandon and Figueiredo were competing for the Undisputed UFC Flyweight championship in the Co-main of UFC 283 in Rio de Janeiro.
The fight ended in the 4th round after a doctor declared Figueiredo unfit to continue after one of his eyes was completely shut down. Brandon was immediately declared the new Undisputed Flyweight champion. These results enraged the Brazilian crowd as it seemed at the moment Brandon had used an illegal move to win the gold. The enraged crowd booed the new champ and even threw trash at him.
The Assassin Baby later addressed the whole incident during the post-match interview. Speaking to the press he said, “The hook was clear, right in [Figueiredo’s] right eye. Then, maybe that’s why people were a little confused because I pushed his head with my hand… Maybe that’s why the people were a little bit mad with me.”
Despite the controversial stoppage, there is no denying that the Mexican had the upper hand throughout the previous three rounds and easily would have won had the fight continued till the fifth round. Brandon outstruck Deiveson, landing 48/74 to the latter’s 19/43. By the end of the third round, Brandon had considerably more control time and had been able to complete more takedowns than the Brazilian.

Deiveson Figueiredo believes he was poked by Brandon Moreno
During the third round of the fight, Brandon landed a brutal punch on Figueiredo and something immediately felt wrong. Figueiredo complained to the referee about an alleged eye poke but the referee deemed the punch to be legal.
After the post-match interview, Figueiredo gave his view on the incidents. He said, “You know, it’s Brandon’s night. I felt the eye poke, I thought it was an eye poke. But there’s not much I can say. Hopefully, I don’t have any lasting problems with my eyes.”
Despite all the controversies, it seems their rivalry has finally come to an end after four fights. Their rivalry started back in 2020 and ended in 2023. This was the only rivalry in UFC history to see a quadrilogy. Figueiredo has also made his intentions clear to move up in weights. Moreover, Brandon Moreno’s next opponent is probably going to be the number one-ranked Flyweight Alexandre Pantoja who has been waiting for his opportunity for last 3 years.
