Beneil Dariush and Mateusz Gamrot have become the latest additions to a stacked UFC 280 card. The two lightweights will be the second feature bout announced for the event that has division-wide consequences. Ranked #6 and #9 respectively the bout is sure to act as another title eliminator.

Another bout of such magnitude is the welterweight bout between Belal Muhhamad and Sean Brady. Both fighters who are ranked #5 and #9 respectively will fight it out to determine who is more deserving of a title shot, baring Khamzat Chimaev steps in the way.

Along with the two announced Championship fights between Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev for the LW belt and Aljamain Sterling colliding against TJ Dillashaw for the bantamweight title, the event will also feature the return of former Champion, Petr Yan against Sean O’Malley who will be taking a massive leap in competition.

Beneil Dariush and Mateusz Gamrot to face off in possible title eliminator

Mateusz Gamrot x Beneil Dariush
Gamrot had his most recent victory in a thriling battle against Arman Tsarukyan while Dariush last saw action all the way back in 2021

Both Gamrot and Dariush are coming off decision victories and are riding high on their 4 and 7 fight win streaks respectively. Gamrot had an excellent showing against fellow promising lightweight Armaz Tsarukyan. Despite winning a unanimous decision, had some fans crying robbery because of how close the bout was. Gamrot at 31 has a lot to gain from this fight as a win over Dariush could possibly put him right at the top of LW rankings.

On the other hand, this is a high-risk fight for Dariush. The Iranian-born fighter was originally supposed to face off against Islam Makhachev in a title eliminator back at UFC Vegas 49, when he had to pull out due to an ankle injury. Several attempts to reschedule the bout were made, during which the whole chaotic episode of Charles Oliveira being stripped of his title unfolded. This would prove a boon for Islam as he would be bumped up to the title match since his opponent had no clear schedule.

Now a victory for Dariush could cement his place at the top but wouldn’t guarantee a title fight, unless Makhachev walks out as the winner. A loss would mean a severe drop in ranking with a long climb back up, in a talent pool full of young and upcoming fighters.
