BREAKING! Israel Adesanya arrested at JFK Airport in New York City
Israel Adesanya
Israel Adesanya had to relinquish his belt recently to Alex Pereira at MSG after the Brazilian put him on unsteady footing and finished the fight via TKO.
Most people feared Alex Pereira’s insane hook which could end Adesanya’s night; apart from that, it looked like the Nigerian-Kiwi had the octagon and the fight measured out. Yet, in idiosyncratic fashion, Pereira was controlled for 22 minutes, only to unleash a lethal flurry of punches to end Adesanya’s night in the final round.
Now, it seems like Israel Adesanya’s misery has been compounded even further. According to reports, on his way out of New York City, Adesanya was arrested for carrying knuckles in his luggage. According to the law, brass knuckles are classified as weapons, and illegal if carried on person or in one’s luggage. [H/T TMZSports]
Adesanya’s manager Tim Simpson released a statement shortly after, saying, “Israel was handed a gift by a fan, which he put in his luggage. When flagged at the airport, Israel quickly disposed of the item, and cooperated with authorities. He has complied accordingly, with that the matter was dismissed and he is on his way home.”
It seems like the skirmish with the authorities was only temporary, and Adesanya is now free to leave home for New Zealand. What a dramatic turn of events, however, for the ex-champion!
MMA Twitter reacts funnily to the news of ex-middleweight champion Israel Adesanya’s arrest at JFK Airport in New York City
Israel Adesanya’s brushing with the law didn’t go unnoticed, as fans on Twitter quickly found some of the best and most humorous reactions to the arrest. That being said, it is good to know that Adesanya is back on his way home – where, no doubt, he will look to restart training with Eugene Bareman as soon as he can. It is not as if everything is lost for the ex-champion – given the nature of his dominance over the other 185-pounders, it is only logical for the UFC to award an immediate title rematch.
