Ilia Topuria is brimming with confidence ahead of the showdown with Alexander Volkanovksi. Topuria, at 14-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC faces featherweight champion Volkanovski at UFC 298. The Feb. 17 headliner takes place at Honda Center in Anaheim. Recently though, that confidence has been gravely undignified and swiped down with fostering Paddy Pimblett into the equation. Pimblett competes at UFC 296 this Saturday.
Pimblett locks horns with Tony Ferguson this Saturday, at the UFC 296 fight card in Las Vegas, Nevada. A recent video has surfaced on social media, with Topuria boarding his flight to be ringside at the event. The video sees fans of the fighter from Liverpool chant his name in a singalong of “Oh Paddy the Baddy!” as Topuria traverses along.
Topuria is undefeated at featherweight, with a 14-fight win streak. His last victory came in the form of a unanimous decision win over Josh Emmet in June. “The Baddy” on the other hand stands on a six-fight win streak, facing Ferguson who tries to rectify his six-fight loss record against him.
This isn’t the only event of public dissension between the two to draw on. Topuria and Pimblett had once publicly brawled hands-on amidst several callouts last year. Down the line though, the featherweight contender had dismissed Pimblett as an underachieving prospect.
Fans react to mass-chant of Paddy Pimblett’s name, to Ilia Topuria
Ilia Topuria and Paddy Pimblett are no strangers to conflict when it comes to each other. Things had gotten very heated between them in 2022, in the lead-up to UFC London. Now, however, Topuria finds himself in a whole other kind of bind.
A video has surfaced where he was mocked by Pimblett fans who kept chanting his name on the featherweights’ approach. This happened while the fighter was to board a plane for UFC 296. Pimblett correspondingly fights in that card. Check out the fan responses to the situation below.
Many fans have thus reinstigated and catalyzed the notion of a matchup between the two yet again. A lot of fans have conversely berated Pimblett for facing a washed-up Tony Ferguson, way past his prime. Meanwhile, Topuria makes a title contention at UFC 298, in February.
