The UFC is presently facing a class action anti-trust lawsuit. The developments in the lawsuit have revealed the fight purse of the top earners in the UFC from 2010 to 2017. When taking cumulative payment, the likes of Conor McGregor, Ronda Rousey, Jon Jones, and Anderson Silva led the way. However, what Brock Lesnar made in just two fights for the UFC remains astonishing to many.
Brock Lesnar made a whopping $3 million for his fight with Alistair Overeem at UFC 141 and another $8 million for his fight with Mark Hunt at UFC 200. In contrast, Conor McGregor made $20 million, but it took him nine fights to get there. Rousey made $13 million in 7 fights, whereas $15 for the same amount of fights. Anderson Silva made $27 million in 9 fights, whereas Georges St. Pierre made $15 million in four fights. All the purses are from the calendar years spanning 2010 to 2017.
Lesnar made his name in the WWE after the end of his collegiate wrestling career. He was also the first global superstar in the UFC. Hence, his remuneration cannot be considered outrageous. MMA as a sport began in the late 20th century and thus has a long way to go before having the same remuneration as elite superstars in the NBA, NFL, and MLB. Lesnar has competed only nine times in MMA, with 8 of those in the UFC.
Brock Lesnar lost his UFC debut to Frank Mir. However, he rebounded and bagged a title shot at heavyweight in his third fight with the UFC. He would defend the title twice with the promotion before losing the title to Cain Velasquez. Lesnar would also lose his subsequent bout to Alistair Overeem before returning from a four-and-a-half-year hiatus to fight Mark Hunt. His return fight was eventually deemed a No Contest as Lesnar failed a drug test.
Netizens react to Brock Lesnar’s significant fight purse in the UFC
The combat sports community on social media has been left in awe after court documents revealed the fight purse of top fighters in the UFC. The documents have thrashed many preconceived notions about fighter purses, and Brock Lesnar has emerged as the biggest earner of the promotion.
Conor McGregor was believed to have made more than $50 million for his fights from Chad Mendes to Eddie Alvarez. However, court documents revealed that he made around $30 million. Jake Paul used this to troll McGregor and Nate Diaz on social media. See how the fans reacted to the fight purse of Brock Lesnar.
What surprised many was the fight purse of Brock Lesnar in the revealed court documents. He made $11 million in just two fights, which meant that he earned more than $5 million on average for a fight. Moreover, his fight purse of $8 million for the Mark Hunt fight is a million more than McGregor’s fight purse against Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title.
