Before the UFC, Bruce Buffer and his father were boxing aficionados. It was by watching boxing, that Bruce reconnected with his estranged half- brother Michael Buffer. But that won’t be for a long time.

After learning of his half-brother Bruce’s existence, the famed boxing announcer engaged him as his agent, which led to the formation of ‘The Buffer Partnership.’ Just like his older brother in boxing, Bruce went on to dominate as an announcer in the UFC ring.

Bruce experimented with a number of announcement catchphrases, some of which were far too lengthy. “It’s Time”, his now-famous catchphrase, was eventually chosen. Buffer’s remarkable voice, paired with the discipline to routinely attend UFC events, concentration on a fighter while announcing, and physical intensity propelled him to the heights we see today.

Bruce Buffer spoke on The Residency Podcast earlier this month to discuss how his and his brother’s life intersected. He even discusses how he sued Disney.

Michael’s distinctive slogan, ‘Let’s get ready to rumble,’ was trademarked when they teamed up. Throughout his decades-long career, which includes time in WCW, this slogan grew in prominence across the world. After completing the legal requirements, the trademark earned more than 400 million dollars.

Bruce tells on the podcast how he had to sue Disney over their animated movie “Hercules”. He recalls a scene saying, “Disney made the movie ‘Hercules” and at one point, James Wood’s character Hades,he throws a ball of flame in the air and there’s Michael’s voice ‘Let’s get ready to rumble.’ Boy i didn’t authorize that”

Bruce compares the use of the catchphrasw with usage of Nike’s swish and Coca-Cola’s emblem.
