Calvin Kattar and Giga Chikadze share a wholesome drink following former’s UFC on ESPN 37 loss
Chikadze and Kattar have seemingly buried the hatchet
Giga Chikadze got a lot of flak in the lead-up to his Calvin Kattar fight due to his self-belief that he was levels above Kattar. Hence it was cathartic to many as Kattar pieced up the young prospect for 5 straight rounds who just a few days ago accused the champion of ducking him and taking the easy fights. Now Giga might have been a better sport than we all imagined.
Kattar and Chikadze faced off at the start of the year in The Apex scheduled for a five-round fight. While many were intrigued by the clash of styles many were surprised when it was in fact Kattar who was winning the exchanges on the feet. The last we saw Kattar before this performance was exactly one year ago when he got pieced up on Fight Island by Max Holloway.
Kattar managed to come out on top in the five-round affair with minimal damage while Chikadze resembled a man who fell off a train. Given Chikadze’s lone wolf personality one could be forgiven for assuming Chikadze might hold feelings of resentment towards Kattar for derailing the young prospect’s hype train. However, at UFC Austin, Chikadze showed his sportsmanship was a notch above the rest.

Giga Chikadze and Calvin Kattar enjoy drinks at the after party
The duo had met the day prior during the weigh-ins and even had a friendly chat. Kattar was scheduled to match up against Josh Emmett in the main event and came out on the wrong side of a controversial decision after 5 grueling rounds. While this loss put Kattar a few more fights away from his title contention hopes, Giga was right there to cheer him up.
The two crossed paths again in a restaurant somewhere in Austin where Kattar was probably having his afterparty. In the video, Giga can be seen raising a toast, reciprocated by Kattar before the two chugs down their drinks. This is followed by a congratulatory pat on the back by Giga.
Giga has not yet been scheduled for a fight and will have to contend with some serious competition before these two face each other again down the line. Who do you favor in a future fight between the two?
