“Thought I edged him,” Calvin Kattar speaks on his loss to Josh Emmett after a razor-close battle at UFC Austin
Calvin Kattar at UFC Austin
Calvin Kattar has finally spoken about his loss from his last fight, an insanely competitive back and forth between him and Josh Emmett. Kattar opened up 2022 with his return after an entire year when he dominated Giga Chikadze throughout all 5 rounds, nearly the same way he was defeated last year by former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway. Kattar had a lot of pressure on his side to keep the ball rolling and restart a winning streak going into the Emmett fight this past weekend.
And in the eyes of many fight fans, Kattar did win the fight. It’s just the fight was so close that either one could’ve been seen as the winner. Kattar used his straight punches very calculatingly to control the medium-range offence. Emmett dominated the short-range offence with his dangerous hooks. Who you would’ve given the victory to?

“Did enough to win the fight,” Calvin Kattar baffled by but respects the judges’ decision at UFC Austin
Kattar appeared on the ESPN+ post-fight show to elaborate on his belief thinking that he won the fight against Emmett at UFC Austin but making peace with the judges’ decision at the same time.
“I just thought I was going to get my hand raised at the end of it,” says Kattar. “I didn’t care, we give a sh*t if it’s unanimous or a split. I thought I did enough to win the fight. Josh is a class act, a tough kid. Congrats to him and his team…
There was never a point I thought I could sit back, but I thought I was edging him out, especially the longer the fight went. The fifth round, I thought I took it. I know he wanted to stand in the centre and bang but I mean, that’d be cool I guess if I wasn’t up in the fight, maybe. I thought I was landing the better shots, but I’m not a judge. It went the way it did, but I thought I did enough to win the fight.” [ h/t MMA Junkie]
What do you make of Kattar’s thoughts, do you resonate with them? Regardless, Kattar is one of the most exciting fighters on the UFC’s current roster and so his stock doesn’t fall down a single bit. Kattar has won over the likes of Giga Chikadze, Dan Ige, Jeremy Stephens, Ricardo Lamas, Shane Burgos, Andre Fili and many more.
